Never heard of a King Shepherd? That makes sense. The King Shepherd is a mixed breed dog. While there’s nothing wrong with having a mixed breed, you should do your research. Some unethical breeders won’t DNA test their dogs or health test them, because it’s easier to get away with if the dogs aren’t registered — and only purebred dogs can be.
Fortunately, you can find King Shepherds in shelters. So what exactly are they?
A Mixed Dog
The King Shepherd is a German Shepherd mix. Many mixes include the Great Pyrenees, but this isn’t a necessity.
Usually, the King Shepherd resembles a German Shepherd at least a little bit. The coat color may be that of the Shepherd parent, and the same body shape. They’re usually large dogs and are perhaps even larger than a purebred German Shepherd due to the mix.
Their personality also depends on the mix. With socialization and training, you should have a happy, healthy, friendly dog but the German Shepherd in them can make them a little defensive — and if there’s Pyr in the mix, that will be worse! Make sure you carefully evaluate the mix and your puppy’s personality. Socialize them with a lot of strangers and ensure they have good experiences.
