Norwich Terriers are part of the terrier group and are alert, curious, and loyal. They came from England and were initially bred to be ratters. Today, they’re fun-loving and friendly family companion dogs. To learn more about Norwich Terrier puppies, keep reading.

Where To Get Norwich Terrier Puppies

You can find this dog breed where ever you can adopt dogs. For instance, you can try your local animal shelter or rescue organization first. These places will have purebred or mixed breed Norwich Terriers. Also, they could have puppies, adults, or seniors. Regardless, you can gain a new furry friend while saving a dog’s life. Julienne…

However, if you want a Norwich Terrier puppy, then you can go through a reputable breeder. Since this dog breed is purebred, the American Kennel Club recognizes the breed. So, most ethical breeders are registered on the AKC Marketplace.

If you look for a breeder yourself, be sure they do the following:

  • Socialize and train the puppies as early as possible
  • Have the puppies up to date on all of their vaccinations
  • Want to meet with you in person and allow you to meet the parents and the puppies
  • Have health documents ready for you to take home
  • Health screen and genetically test both of the parents (before breeding) and the puppies

In addition, they’ll be able to answer all of your questions about anything, such as the process, breed, breeder, parents, or the litter.

If you find a breeder who doesn’t do the above, they’re probably a puppy mill or backyard breeder. Avoid these breeders since they’d instead make a profit then find the puppies good homes. Also, they don’t breed the dogs in healthy or safe conditions.

The Cost

You can expect to pay an average of $800 to $3,600 for a Norwich Terrier puppy. The price will vary depending on where you adopt the dog, the breeder’s location, how high in demand the breed is, and the puppy’s lineage, age, or coat color. Sky_owl_kennel…

Norwich Terriers are small dogs. They can stand up to ten inches tall and weigh no more than 12 pounds. Also, they have a short, wiry double coat that can come in four different colors. For example, their coat might be black & tan, grizzled, red, or wheaten.

The Norwich Terrier is a lot of fun to have around. They make great family companion dogs. For example, they’re loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they love humans, are excellent with young children, and are open to meeting new people. Even though they’re protective and are excellent watchdogs, they’ll warm up to strangers fast.

Norwich Terriers will bark to alert you of something or someone coming. They’ll protect their territory and their family, but they’re not an aggressive dog breed. So, they’ll never attack anyone.

Also, they’re good with other dogs, but they will need some time to get used to them. Early training and socializing will be ideal. Norwich Terriers are somewhat easy to train, but they can also have their stubborn moments.

Being such a small dog, they’ll be fine living in an apartment. However, they do love to bark and have high energy levels. So, having this doggo in a bigger home with a fenced-in yard will be a better option for them. This doggo will need plenty of physical activity and mental stimulation every day.

So, if you’re not home all day, then hiring a professional dog walker to check in on them once in a while throughout the day will be a good idea. Norwichwithwine…

Norwich Terrier Puppies – Veterinary Needs

When your Norwich Terrier is still a puppy for their first year, be sure to bring them to the vet a few times. Not only will this help keep them up to date on their shots and boosters, but you’ll also be able to track their growth and development. Then, for every year after that, you can bring them to the vet once a year for their annual checkup.

Luckily, Norwich Terriers are a relatively healthy dog breed. The primary health issue you’ll need to be concerned about is them possibly getting Mitral Valve Disease. They could also get ear, eye, or joint problems, but it’s not as expected.

With proper care, nutrition, and exercise, Norwich Terriers have an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years.

You can feed your Norwich Terrier high-quality kibbled or canned wet food from a commercial dog food brand. Alternatively, you can give them homemade dog food.

Be sure you get your vet’s approval, no matter what you feed them. Also, keep the food appropriate for your dog’s breed size, age, weight, and metabolism.

You’ll want to bring your small doggo to a professional grooming salon at least once a month or once every other month. This is because their wiry coat will need to be hand-stripped. Of course, you can do this yourself, but having a professional groomer do it will give your dog a good cleaning.

Otherwise, you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a week to keep the shedding at bay. Also, keep up with trimming their nails, cleaning their ears, and brushing their teeth.
