Red Doberman – The Complete Guide

Did you know that the Doberman Pinscher can come in many coat colors? Red is one of them, though it’s not very common. The Red Doberman isn’t bred all that much because they can have too many health issues. However, that doesn’t mean this coat color doesn’t exist. Sometimes it’s bred accidentally, all thanks to genetics.

The coloring of a dog doesn’t typically change its temperament or personality. So, if you think a Doberman Pinscher is the right dog breed for you and your family, you can get one in any color. Red Dobermans are pretty, though, so let’s take a closer look at them.

What does a Red Doberman look like?

It’s not ethical to breed this pup to get a Red Doberman. That’s because this coloring can cause many health issues for this breed. In addition, it’s considered inhumane, which is why this coloring isn’t common. This is Ophelia…

In fact, it’s extremely rare to have a solid red Doberman. Most often than that, this pooch will have red coloring mixed with some other colors. For example, another name for the Red Doberman is “chocolate” because they look more brown than red.

Doberman Pinschers can also come in red and rust coloring. This coat color is also deemed a Red Doberman, even though this coloring is actually a dark reddish-brown. Red and rust Dobermans have tan markings (which is the rust) on their eyebrows, muzzle, ears, chest, legs, and beneath their tail.

This coloring is one of the more popular colors of this dog breed. Plus, it’s officially recognized as a breed standard color, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Where to find a Red Doberman

So, if you want a Red Doberman, where exactly can you look to find one? Some breed-specific rescues or shelters may have Reb Dobermans. However, since this coloring isn’t as common, chances are they’ll have other colored Dobermans on hand. This is Dex…

Again, the coat color does not determine a dog’s personality or temperament. So while a certain coat color may look prettier than another color, there’s no real reason to be picky about what your dog looks like.

Alternatively, you can go through a reputable breeder. However, since it’s unethical to breed a Red Doberman purposefully, you might not have great luck finding one. It’s better to get this doggo in another color rather than risk the health issues.

How much does a Red Doberman cost?

If you happen to find a Red Doberman Pinscher, you can expect to spend anywhere between $1,500 and $2,500.

Getting To Know The Breed

The Red Doberman Pinscher can grow to be about 24 to 28 inches tall and weigh between 70 and 100 pounds, with females being slightly smaller than males. Despite their size, they have an average lifespan of 10 to 13 years.

Remember, this doggo can have some health issues due to their coat color. These health conditions to be aware of are Bloat, dilated cardiomyopathy, von Willebrand’s disease, hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), hypothyroidism, and albinism. However, with proper care and regular trips to the veterinarian, your pooch should live to its full average lifespan.

Aside from their health problems, this doggo will make a great family. They are loyal and devoted to their family members. This pooch is intelligent, but they can be stubborn. So, training might be a challenge. Starting early is key, especially since they’re a larger pup. You’ll want to be able to stay in control of them before they get too big and end up doing their own thing. In addition, Red Dobermans are strong and alert, allowing them to make excellent guard dogs. Meet Kovu…

This large dog breed will need plenty of exercise, though. They have high energy levels and will like physical and mental stimulation every day. Red Dobermans won’t do well in an apartment and would much rather have a house with a large, fenced-in backyard. They’ll be able to stretch their legs and run around with the kids and other family members. A long walk each day will do them well, too.

One of the best things about this doggo is that they have short fur. This means their grooming needs are low maintenance. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t shed (they’ll still shed a little bit), and it also doesn’t mean you won’t need to worry about brushing them. To keep their coat and skin clean and healthy, you’ll still want to brush them frequently. Once a week or so will be good.

Should you bring home a Red Doberman?

Red Doberman Pinschers are a delight to add to any home. If you’re looking for a strong, watchdog then they’ll get the job done. However, you’ll need to be active alongside them so that you can give them the ample exercise and playtime they need each day.

If you’re able to find a Red Doberman, be sure you can handle the possibility of them having certain health issues. Otherwise, they have a beautiful coat that everyone will surely admire. This is Dobi…
