Rottweiler Pitbull Mix — The Complete Guide

Jul 16 ·

Looking for a big strong dog? You don’t need to look any further than a Rottweiler pitbull mix. These dogs combine two amazing breeds in one. They are often known as the Pitweiler breed.

As with any dog breed, or mixed breed, however, they do require a bit of research. Mixed breeds especially can be harder to predict when it comes to size, appearance, and temperament, so it takes some careful consideration to commit to one. Make sure you do your research!

Here’s everything there is to know about these dogs.

Where To Get A Rottweiler Pitbull Mix

When seeking out any dog, you should always look for a good breeder.

One indication of a great breeder is having their dogs AKC registered to certify that they’re the breed they claim. However, the AKC only registers purebred dogs, which means mixed breeds don’t have the honor. That means it can be a little more difficult to find good mixed breed dogs, as you’ll need to keep a closer eye on potential red flags. This is Bambou…

You should always make sure you can visit the breeder at their home and pick up the puppy in person, as you’ll be able to see where they stay and meet the parents. This is a quick way to make sure you aren’t buying a puppy from a puppy mill.

Good breeders will also health check their dogs and have them up to date on shots.

Because a Rottweiler pitbull mix isn’t a purebred dog, you may have luck finding one in a shelter. However, it may not be the exact mix you want and there may be other breeds in there. There is much to know if you are looking to get a Pitweiler…

The Cost

You might be tempted to buy a puppy for $30 on Craigslist. You shouldn’t. These dogs clearly haven’t cost much to raise, meaning they may not be up to date on shots or deworming dedication. It’s likely a lot of time hasn’t gone into socializing them either. Meet Moose…

Rottweiler pitbull mixes, however, shouldn’t be too expensive since they’re a mixed breed. You’ll probably pay around $300-500 for a happy, healthy pup.

Appearance

Since pitbulls and Rottweilers are both large breeds, you can expect your mix to be large too! This will be a powerful dog that combines features from both the pitbull and Rottweiler. They’ll likely have a short coat and be very muscular, as long as you keep them in shape.

Temperament

Rottweilers and pitbulls can both have a reputation for being aggressive, but this simply isn’t true in dogs who have been raised well. Although their prey drive can be high and they may not be suited for living with small animals, they’re loyal and confident dogs who thrive in terms of their personality when paired with the right owner.

The temperament of mixed breeds can be harder to predict, but if you give them all of the love, training, and socialization they need, this has the potential to be a great dog.

Diet

Diet is a discussion among dog owners which can provoke disagreements. Some people swear by a raw diet, but you should only feed your dog this if an expert is preparing the meals. This way, they’ll get all of the nutrition they need.

Kibble is fine as long as it’s high-quality. Make sure to look up the ingredients, read reviews, and ask your vet about the brand you choose. That way, you know for sure your dog is getting a good diet. Some kibbles can be very low-quality and aren’t actually very good for dogs.

Grain-free foods have been linked to heart disease in dogs, so you should not choose grain-free food.

Treats should only make up 10% of your dog’s calories every day!

Rottweiler Pitbull Mix Veterinary Needs

Since you should be picking your puppy up after eight weeks old if the breeder is responsible, they should have had some shots already or be due for their very first set. Like any puppies, they’ll need a series of shots every three weeks until they’re around sixteen weeks old, as well as deworming medication.

After that, they only need visits once a year to check they’re happy and healthy. They’ll also receive their booster vaccines at these appointments to keep them protected.

Grooming

Of all dogs, these mixes don’t have high grooming needs. Their short coat means they don’t often have to be brushed, and they’ll only need to be bathed once every couple of months at the most. However, as with any good, they should regularly have their ears cleaned, nails trimmed, and teeth brushed.

So, if you’ve decided you want to look for a Rottweiler pitbull mix, congratulations! These have the potential to be great dogs with lots of energy and a real love for their owners. Make sure to get one from someone reputable and keep up with their socialization and veterinary needs to have an amazing best friend for life.
